SUMMARY:Music for a Summer Evening
DESCRIPTION:An evening of music and song with something for everyone – including familiar classics\, songs from musicals\, jazz\, pop and everything in between.\n\n\n\nPerformers are\nLulu Yang and Ian Gifford\, Enid Noronha\, Paul Ashton and Ijeoma Emeka\, Tom O’Donnell\, John Denton\n\nTickets (£5 each) are now on sale at both churches.\n\nAbout Our Performers\n\n\nLulu Yang – Piano\nLulu was born in Sichuan\, China. She studied at Chetham’s School of Music\, the Royal Northern College of Music and at Yale School of Music.\nLulu has given many solo recitals in the UK and has also performed in Holland\, Switzerland\, USA and Jordan and has been invited on concert tours of Russia and China. Lulu is the recipient of many prizes and awards and has appeared in the Media several times. Her concert tour of Russia (2001) was filmed by ITV and was broadcast later that year. Lulu now teaches piano at Chetham’s School of Music.\n\n\n\nIan Gifford – Baritone\nIan studied electronic engineering at Bradford University before developing an interest in singing. Ian began private singing lessons which eventually led him to postgraduate study at the Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal Northern College of Music. During his time at college Ian performed as soloist in a number of oratorios including Mozart’s Requiem\, Handel’s Messiah\, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solenelle and Stabat Mater and sung principals roles in operas such as Die Fledermaus\, Don Pasquale\, L’heure Espagnole and La Calisto.\n\n\n\n\n\nIjeoma Emeka & Paul Ashton\nIjeoma Emeka sang with the band\, Jazz Central\, while at medical school – an eclectic mix of Blues\, Jazz\, Soul and even Reggae.\n\n\nPaul Ashton :Keyboard player and writer with the band Dr Truth\, which headlined blues festivals in UK\, France and Italy. With other bands he has played in Italy and USA and performed with many of Manchester’s famous artists. He has also played keyboards/synths and was music director playing festivals with Omar\, Junior and Curiosity Killed The Cat’s Ben Volpeliere-Pierrot. Filmed by Granada when his band played with Jason Donovan in the studio and he appeared on TV with Manchester’s own X-Factor star\, Misha B\, where they performed songs they wrote together.\n\n\n\nJohn Denton \n\nJohn Denton is our youngest musician but is no stranger to playing live music and can be seen regularly busking on the streets of Manchester\, the videos of which have racked up thousands of views on the band’s social media channels . Additionally\, John has also taken to the stage and performed at the world famous Salford Lads Club. His group “The Height” released their debut single “Nowhere” in December and this was followed up with an EP “Nowhere To Go”. The band also caught the ear and eye of legendary The Smiths guitarist and co-songwriter Johnny Marr who awarded lead vocalist/guitarist John Denton the first ever ‘The Salford Foundation Trust Johnny Marr Award’.
