John Bergin was born 11 May 1922 the son of Bernard and Mary Garvey, Sandymount, Dublin. Educated at Westlands Row, Dublin by the Christian Bros.
20 June 1948 Ordained at All Hallow by Bishop Dunne, (Aux Dublin). He went to Rome to take a Post Graduate Course in Canon Law and returned to the Diocese where he worked in the Matrimonial Tribunal combining it with parish work. For a number of years, he was the Officials and remained a Judge of the Tribunal to the end.

1965-1966 St Peter, Newchurch in Rossendale, as curate
1966-1969 Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Ordsall, as Parish Priest
1969-1994 Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Blackley, as Parish Priest
Retired in 1994 and died at his home in Alkrington 15 July 1996
